Erroneous Wedding Information
There is a cloud of mystery surrounding this patriarch and matriarch of the Willey family. Recent research has proven wrong the well-published claim of their marriage occurring on 2 JUN 1795 in Barnet, Vermont.
Abenaki and Scottish Connection?
Her name itself, Watay Mariah Willey, may provide us with some clues as to her possible heritage. The only documentation to date comes from the 1850 Ohio Census which indicates "Witty" Willey's place of birth as Vermont.
